As Borras Quarry moves through its lifecycle over the next 20 to 25 years, Tarmac and teams of volunteers from the Millennium Eco Centre are dedicated to progressively restoring the land to attract more wildlife. The long term plan is to create a country park with grassland, wetland and woodland habitats. Over the years numbers of sensitive plants and animals have declined. By looking after these habitats, we have begun to increase their population & diversity.

Our teams of dedicated young enthusiasts have planted over 5000 trees and shrubs on land around the quarry, which in time will attract more and more wildlife… as the plants and trees mature they will bring with them new fruits and seeds that will provide food for other animals…plus the native trees we have planted will provide new homes for wildlife like woodpeckers, bats and ladybirds.
We are encouraging a wide variety of plants & animals through our grasslands, wetlands and woodlands restoration projects. Its essential to remember that all living organisms are dependent on each other and so it is very important that we make the homes for wildlife desirable to their new owners.
