July 2009 - Well done everyone who made it to the top

Did You Know?

By composting your 'green' waste (biodegradable, organic waste) you can reduce your CO2 per year by 280kg.

The average household throws out one rubbish bin's worth of waste every week, emitting about 1400kg of carbon dioxide a year, a figure that could be cut by 20 per cent if all kitchen and garden waste was composted.

More Archaeological Discovery on the Holt Estate

Archaeologists from CPAT last year discovered a Neolithic settlement over on the Holt Estate in Borras Quarry.

Since then the team have been keen to get back on site to look for further evidence.

This story began last spring when Tarmac sent in the machinery to start stripping the top soil, ready for the sand and gravel extraction. As the diggers moved the soil they unearthed strange black circles in the sandy soil. As more of these strange marks were uncovered, Tarmac called in the professionals to help explain the findings.

This year Ian Grant and his team from CPAT have been back looking at a different area of extraction on the Holt Estate.

When Ian has more information on his findings, we will let you know.
